Nigeria - Bomb Explosion near Church in Suleja, Niger State

An explosion struck the Nigerian town of Suleja, on the edge of the capital Abuja, today, Sunday 19th February 2012. A security source and the emergency services spokesman said, the explosion occured near the Christ Embassy church in Suleja Niger State along Morocco road close to a training center known as Option Academy. The blast  injured five persons and destroyed five vehicles , the National Emergency Management Agency has said.



"NEMA has alerted other response agencies to an explosion reported in Morocco area of Suleja. Public are strongly advised to desist from getting close to explosion and allow rescue workers access to site," spokesman for the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said in a text message and asking onlookers to leave the scene to allow rescuers to work. 

                


















Residents say that they had seen a suspicious package on the street and immediately reported it to the anti-bomb unit in the area, it was not clear if the bomb that caused today's explosion was the same package. Emergency workers said five people are seriously injured.
